Using the workspace
Connect Gmail, Outlook or any IMAP mailbox. Dus reads, searches and files your mail and writes drafts; nothing is sent without you seeing it first.
Connect your mailbox in Settings → Apps & connectors → Email, and Dus can work with your mail the way it works with your code: "find the invoice from Acme and save the PDF to the project", "draft a reply to Ana with the release notes attached", "archive the shop newsletters".
Three ways to connect
| How it signs in | Good for | |
|---|---|---|
| Gmail | Your browser, on Google's page (OAuth) | Gmail and Google Workspace |
| Outlook | Your browser, on Microsoft's page (OAuth) | Outlook.com and Microsoft 365 |
| Other mailbox (IMAP) | Your address and an app password | Fastmail, iCloud, Yahoo, a company server, Yion-hosted mail, and Gmail or Outlook too |
IMAP works for almost everyone today. Create an app password in your mail provider's security settings (Gmail, Outlook, iCloud and Yahoo require one; it can be revoked without changing your real password), type your address and the app password, and Duscode fills in the server settings for common providers. Duscode checks the password with the server before saving it to your vault. Connections are always encrypted (TLS); Duscode refuses to send a password to another computer without encryption.
Gmail and Outlook sign-in opens your browser on Google's or Microsoft's page and lists what Duscode asks for and why. Gmail asks for one mail permission (read, label, draft and send; never permanent deletion). Until Duscode's own sign-in app is approved by Google and Microsoft, you can paste the client ID of your own OAuth app, or use IMAP.
What Dus can do
- Search by words, sender, recipient, subject, dates, unread, attachments or folder/label.
- Read a message or a whole conversation, with its attachments listed.
- Download attachments into the project (
.duscode/downloads/), so Dus can read a PDF or a spreadsheet. - Write drafts: new messages, replies (threaded, quoting the original) and forwards (with the original's attachments), attaching files from the project. Drafts are the default: you can review them in your own mail app.
- Send a draft or a message, mark read or unread, archive, move to a folder, label (Gmail) and move to the trash.
Nothing goes out without you
- Sending is always confirmed, in every permission mode: the card shows To, Cc, Bcc, the subject, the whole body and every attachment, and the button says Send email.
- Changing many messages at once (more than 10, or "everything matching…") shows how many and the first few before anything changes.
- Deleting always asks.
- Files that look like secrets (
.env, keys) are never attached.
Emails are other people's words: Dus treats them as data, never as instructions, and shows you any email that tries to instruct it. See Apps and connectors.

One account per provider at a time; shared mailboxes; scheduled send; filters and rules. Duscode's own emails to you (sign-in links, notifications) come from Duscode Cloud and have nothing to do with your mailbox.
