Using the workspace
The sidebar
Duscode's left rail: the chosen project's sessions, keys to move between them, Search, Files (Ctrl+P), Skills and Scheduled; resize it by dragging, collapse it with Ctrl+B.
The sidebar is the rail on the left of the workspace. Everything in it opens something over the chat, such as a dialog, a menu or a session. Nothing in it takes you to a separate page.
From top to bottom:
| Item | What it does |
|---|---|
| Duscode and the collapse button | Collapses the sidebar to a slim strip (see Collapse it) |
| New session | Starts a session in its own worktree (Alt+N). See Sessions and worktrees. |
| Search | Sessions, tasks, messages, files, commands, skills, settings and saved items (Ctrl/⌘+K) |
| Files | The project's file tree with a preview (Ctrl/⌘+P) |
| Skills | Browse skills by category, create your own, and use one in your next message |
| Search | Finds file names and text in the session's files (Ctrl/⌘+K) |
| Files | The project's file tree (Ctrl/⌘+P) |
| Team | Every session working in this project, and how they coordinate (Sessions working together) |
| Skills | Opens the skill picker in the message box |
| Scheduled | Your scheduled jobs |
| Sessions | The sessions of the project you chose in the top bar (see Several projects) |
| Settings, Usage, Help | A quiet row at the bottom: Settings (Ctrl/⌘+,), your AI spend, and Learn |
Your account is the round avatar at the far right of the top bar: it opens the profile menu.
Resize it
Drag the sidebar's right edge to make it between 220 and 480 pixels wide. Double-click the edge to reset it. Duscode remembers the width in this browser.
Collapse it
Click the collapse button next to the logo, or press Ctrl/⌘+B. The sidebar becomes a 56-pixel strip with buttons to expand it, start a new session, search and open Files, then each open project's initial (with an amber dot when something there needs you; click one to open it), and Settings, Usage and Help as icons at the bottom. Press Ctrl/⌘+B again, or click the expand button, to bring it back. Duscode remembers whether it was collapsed.
On a phone, or in a window narrower than 1000 pixels, the sidebar is a drawer instead. Open it with the menu button at the left of the top bar.
Search, Files, Skills and Scheduled
Search, Files, Skills and Scheduled open as sections of one dialog, the same one as Settings: its list on the left starts with Workspace (Search, Files, Skills, Scheduled jobs, Saved, Projects).
- Search starts with your recent sessions, recent tasks and how they ended, recently opened files, quick actions, saved items and suggested skills. Type to search all of them at once, plus messages, file text, settings and Learn's guides. ↑ ↓ move, Tab jumps to the next group, Enter opens. Start with
>for commands,@for files,#for sessions or/for skills. - Files shows the project's file tree with a filter and a preview. Files Dus added or changed are marked A or M. Click a file to preview it; double-click it, press Enter or click Open to open it in the work pane.
- Skills lists the same skills as the + menu's Use a skill, with categories. Use puts the skill in the message box for your next message. Create, edit and delete your own skills here. See Skills.
- Scheduled opens Settings → Scheduled jobs. That page lists every job with its next run and last result, and has Run now, Pause and Delete for each one. You create a job from the message box's + menu. See Scheduled jobs.
Several projects at once
The project you're working in is named at the left of the top bar, before the session: project / session. The sidebar lists that project's sessions.
- Switch project. Click the project's name in the top bar. The dropdown lists every open project, with the one you're in ticked and its folder underneath. Other projects show live counts: how many sessions need you, or how many are running. Click one to switch. The page doesn't reload; Duscode opens that project at the session you last had open there.
- Project details. Each project in the dropdown has its own Project details: hover it, or press →. Clicking the project you're in opens its details too.
- New project. The New project button beside the project's name opens Projects: open a folder or a repository, start a new project, or see a project's finished sessions. When the top bar is narrower (a laptop with the sidebar open, or a panel beside the chat), it shows as a + with the same name in its tooltip. On a phone, open Projects from Settings → Projects.
Opening a project (from Projects, a link or duscode open) adds it to the dropdown. The order stays put as you open more, so each project keeps its number for the keyboard.
The top bar's needs you chip lists what needs you in every project, as project · session and what it needs. Click one to go straight there; Stop stops that task.
Moving between projects from the keyboard
| Keys | Does |
|---|---|
| Alt+↑ / Alt+↓ | The previous or next session in the sidebar |
| Ctrl/⌘+Shift+A, or Alt+Shift+↓ | The next session that needs you, in any project |
| Ctrl/⌘+1…9, or Alt+1…9 | The dropdown's first to ninth project, at the session this tab last had open there |
In Chrome and Edge, Ctrl+1…8 switch browser tabs, so use Alt+1…9 there. Search (Ctrl/⌘+K) finds sessions in every open project too, labelled with their project.
Several tabs or windows
Each browser tab keeps its own project and session in its address, so you can keep one project in one tab and another in a second tab. They don't move each other. Both stay live.
Sessions
The sidebar lists the chosen project's sessions:
- Pinned sessions at the top, if you have any
- Main, your own checkout
- the other sessions, grouped by Today, Yesterday and Earlier, newest first
The open session has an accent bar on its left. Hover a session to see its full title, its branch and its status in words. If its preview is running, the row shows the port (such as :5110). Click the port to open the app in a new browser tab.
Status icons
Each row starts with one icon:
| Icon | Means |
|---|---|
| Spinner | Dus is working |
| Amber ⚠ | Needs you: an approval or a question is waiting |
| Red × | Checks failed: the last task ended with the gate failing |
| Quiet ✓ | Verified: the last task's checks passed |
| Blue dot | Unread: something happened that you haven't seen |
| Grey dot | Idle |
A session becomes unread when a task finishes, or starts waiting for you, while no Duscode window has it open. Opening it marks it read. You can also mark a session unread yourself to come back to it later.
The session menu
Each row has a ⋯ button, and you can right-click a row, for the session menu. It has pull requests, Open in, Pin, Rename, Archive, Delete and more. You can use its letter shortcuts while a row has focus.
Archived sessions
Archive in the session menu hides a session and keeps its branch and worktree. Once you've archived one, an Archived (N) button appears below the list. Click it to see the open project's archived sessions only. Then use Restore from a session's menu to bring it back, or Back to sessions to return to the list.
